Where is a good vacation destination in Latin America for a young family?
Q. I'm planning a vacation for my husband, my two-year-old son, and myself. We would like to visit a Latin American country. I can speak basic Spanish (not fluently, but I can usually get my point across). We want to go someplace relatively safe where we can talk to people and experience the culture. Of course, we love warm weather and beaches, but that's not a must. Can anyone suggest a friendly, laid back vacation destination in Latin America that's not too touristy? And maybe suggest some fun activities? Thanks!

Safest Destination but Touristy - Punta del Este is one of South America s premier seaside resorts, and its beautiful beaches, dazzling casinos, world-class restaurants, and upscale shops have lured tourists for almost a century. And, perhaps best of all, it s located in Uruguay, one of Latin America s First World countries; a country with one of the continent s highest standards of living, lowest levels of corruption, and best infrastructures. Anywhere else in Uruguay will not be as much as a tourist destination (except maybe some areas in Montevideo) but very beautiful and tranquil.

What if all of latin america was developed?
Q. If all latin-american countries (from mexico and cuba all the way down to argentina) were developed countries, like the U.S and Canada, would there be as many Latino immigrants in the u.s and canada right now? Futhermore, would anglo-americans from the u.s and canada want to go live down in these latin american countries for most of their lives? I am just curious as to what the Americas would be like if all of latin america were rich, economically of course!

A. People the world over tend to move where the opportunities are. In most cases Latins move north in an effort to better themselves or their life. There are huge groups in both the US and Canada that still still adhere to their old cultures while blending in with the new. Conversely, if Latin America was rich, I believe more North Americans would move south as well. There are already large numbers of us living in Latin America (and many haven't changed their culture) in spite of the economies here.

A. they are still prevalent in the Novelas 90%+ of the people are white
