Latin (lingua lătīna, IPA: /laˈtiːna/) is an Italic language originally spoken in Latium and Ancient Rome. With the Roman conquest, Latin was spread to countries around the Mediterranean, including a large part of Europe. Romance languages such as Aragonese, Corsican, Catalan, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Sardinian, Spanish and others, are descended from Latin, while many others, especially European languages, have inherited and acquired much of their vocabulary from it. Latin was the international language of science and scholarship in central and western Europe until the 17th century, when it was gradually replaced with vernacular languages.

Where can I get a modern globe in the Latin language?
Q. I'm not looking for an inaccurate, old style globe, but a completely modern globe with all the place names either in Latin, or Latinized. Max K: Well, you'd add the names of new countries in the same way that you Latinize any name: you assign the name to the most convenient declension, and put it in the nominative case.

A. I don't think that would work, because you couldn't just add new names of places to globe, how would you name places like canada, or brazil? The language is only use full because it doesn't change.

What are the 9 members of the Latin Language family, for example, Spanish, French, Romanian and etc.?
Q. according to the Romanian Dictionary & Pharsebook it states "In the Latin linguistic family, composed of nine languages, Romanian has the fifth numerical place, after Italian, French, Spanish, and Portuguese." So what is left other than English?

A. There are far more than 9 Latin languages. Here is an incomplete list: Catalan (Spain) Galician (Spain) Asturian (Spain) Aragonese (Spain) Galician (Spain) Asturian (Spain) Extramadurese (Spain) Romansh (Switzerland) Leonese (Italy) Milanese (Italy) Neapolitan (Italy) Friulan (Italy) Sardinian (Italy) Valdotain (Italy) Sicilian (Italy) Piedmontese (Italy) Venetian (Italy) Bergamasquese (Italy) Corsican (France) Franc-Comtois (France) Walloon (Belgium) They do not all have official status, though many do, but all of them are considered proper languages with their own grammar and vocabulary.

What very old language( older than latin) has the most resources?
Q. I think it would be very cool to be able to speak a very dead language(wich is older than latin.) What dead language has the most resources and largest number of people who talk about it and understand it,.
Asked by Dobry Brygid - Tue Jun 16 00:57:28 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would say Sanscrit. A lot of languages come from it, in India in almost every school people learn it and it's also the language of Hindu religion. it's older than Latin and has a huge library of resources. Ancient Greek also, but I think sanscrit here is a winner
